You Want a Baby, But Are You Ready?

You Want a Baby, But Are You Ready?
When you decide to bring a baby into this world, YOU are no longer first, your baby is. So therefore, you have to be willing to be committed and dedicated to do what you have to do in order for your baby or babies to have a fair chance at having a good upbringing. Ask yourself some important questions: Do you like to sleep in and don't like getting up early or throughout the night? Do you still love to party and stay out late? Do you enjoy doing drugs and alcohol? Do you have a lot of random people coming in and out of your home at all times of the day and night? Are you lazy and don't like to clean or cook? Are you one of those people that don't have a job and you're not planning on working either?

Does crying irritate you? Would you have a problem with changing dirty diapers, cleaning up spit and vomit, and staying up late if you're little one becomes sick? Do you have the patience to teach them how to hold their bottle or eat on their own when they get to that certain stage? What about when it's time to teach them how to walk? I hope you understand that there's potty training that comes along with raising a child as well. Children have to go to the doctors to get their shots and checkups and, when they get a little older, you're responsible for taking them to the dentist too.

There are SO many things that come with raising a child, please understand this. It's not all fun and games. I can't tell you how many people I've heard saying, "I can't wait to dress my little one in cute clothes." REALLY, that's it? Reality check! Dressing kids in cute clothes is at the bottom of the list, and depending on the age of the child, you'll have to change their clothes several times a day. God forbid if you have a child that's sickly. You're going to have to have the compassion, strength, and love to nurture them through. It's not promised that your child will be healthy. Many women have complications that are unforeseen.

So, does having a child before you're ready sound fun now? I don't think so. Make sure that you're ready to be a parent before you decide to bring a precious child into this world. It wouldn't be fair to them if you're not.

Think it through carefully. Having a child is NOT a game. It's a very serious decision that you're going to have to make. Make sure that you're prepared to put them first. You're children should not come second to what you still want to do.

Getting Your Baby to Sleep Through the Night Easily and Safely

Getting Your Baby to Sleep Through the Night Easily and Safely
How many times have you gotten up during the night only to get up again an hour later because your baby won't stop crying? It's a common situation among new parents or those with babies aged 6 months or more - getting their babies to sleep through the night but finding it impossible to do so. And the bags and dark circles under your eyes when you look at the mirror in the morning do nothing to make the situation easier.

However, thanks to enterprising and innovative souls who understand that parents need enough rest as well, a new technique called controlled crying has been conceptualized. Also known as "camping out" in some countries, the technique was designed to help infants settle down to a regular routine, with as little stress and fuss as possible.

Controlled crying is where parents wait for their babies to settle down in specific time intervals. These time intervals increase gradually and during this time no rocking, no picking up or patting is allowed and significant results are usually seen in a matter of days. Camping out on the other hand, is when one or both parents stay in the room with the baby without picking them up, patting or rocking them and gradually distancing themselves at varying time intervals in a period of days or weeks until the baby is fully able to sleep on their own.

While there over a thousand and one tips for baby sleep that you can read online, like playing soothing music, regulating the room temperature or dimming the lights, most parents have been found to stick to the tried and tested cry it out method - that is, letting their babies cry themselves to sleep. However, concerns about babies being put through unnecessary stress and trauma that could scar them psychologically and physically, the technique has been found to be most effective in helping babies and parents sleep through the night.

While it may seem that letting babies cry themselves to sleep makes for bad parenting, studies conducted on children between the ages of 8-10 months show no significant negative or harmful effects on them and in fact, has even been found to be a good strategy to employ in managing postnatal depression. This is because the better baby sleeps at night the less anxious mothers feel and as such, tend to relax more, knowing that their baby is settling nicely, with the positive effects lasting until the baby reaches the age of 2 years old.

This controlled comforting technique is also evident in online step-by-step guides that are introduced online, guides which also include how to wean babies away from the bottle, dummies and all-night nappy changes. These guides will also teach you how to read the tone of your baby's cry so you can support them emotionally while they learn to sleep independently. With these guides, parents learn as well that babies who sleep well during the night are happier babies in the morning.

But then again, however successful or effective controlled comforting techniques are, it is still a matter subject to parents' discretion because even though the technique has been proven to be effective among infants aged seven months old and above, there is no proof that it is the same for babies six months old and below so the effects cannot be generalized. The only thing is that it is effective and will not have any long-term harmful effects on your child psychologically, emotionally or physically.

If you're a sleep-deprived parent who longs for 8 hours of rest, check out tips for baby sleep at http://www.thegiftofsleep.com.au and say goodbye to sleepless nights forever.

3 Ways To Soothe A Crying Baby

3 Ways To Soothe A Crying BabyThe reasons why babies cry are understandable - hungry, wet, tired, afraid -- but knowing how to soothe a crying baby may not be an easy task for every parent to handle. Babies are small helpless people in a world that can be overwhelming and sometimes scary to a little person.

Crying is just one way the baby can communicate how she feels. Perhaps it's time for a change or feeding, or maybe the baby just wants your attention. Knowing a few simple ways to soothe a crying baby will make mom and dad feel more comfortable and less stressed about their baby's cry.

Change the Diaper and Cuddle

When a baby feels wetness from her diaper, she squirms and cries from the discomfort. Immediately change her diaper, pick her up, cuddle her and gently rock the baby to calm her down. The baby will feel refreshed from the diaper change. And she will soon calm down as you hold her close and she listens to your breathing and heartbeat.

The Baby is Hungry

Babies cry when they are hungry. It doesn't take a long time for their small digestive systems to digest milk and baby food, and their fast-growing bodies quickly burn calories. So when an hour or so has passed since the baby's last feeding, it may be time for the next one.

The food satisfies the baby's hunger, and nursing or bottle feeding prevents her from crying. So feeding your baby is a way to soothe her hunger cries.

A Cranky Baby Fighting Sleep

Babies are curious, sometimes too curious that they'll fight fatigue just to stay awake and not miss something catchy. But the longer the baby stays awake, the more tired she becomes, and then she cries. The best way to soothe the baby when she's very cranky is to gradually move her away from what stimulates her, change her, feed her and take her to a room with softened lights. Talk to her in a soft tone as you rock her to sleep. Have a toy or two on hand to distract her if she's still active. But once the baby calms down, cover her with a comfortable, soft blanket, and do not put her down until she's fast asleep.

Parents naturally communicate with their babies and learn what their babies need. When a baby cries, mom and dad look for the problem, fix it, and then work to soothe the baby back to a calm state. This attention helps the baby handle her emotions and feelings, and as she grows, she will learn how to express herself in new ways.

If You're Having A Baby Keep Calm And Prepare For Parenthood

If You're Having A Baby Keep Calm And Prepare For Parenthood
A few things in life can give you mixed feelings. A job promotion that brings more money but demands more time spent at the office, relocation to an exciting yet unfamiliar country - and parenthood. The prospect of being in charge of another human being's life can be both thrilling and daunting at the same time. It's thrilling because you've got a new addition to your family and it's daunting because you're going to have to be responsible for that child's upbringing and all the other things that come with it. The beauty of parenthood is that you can actually prepare for it. You've got nine months to learn about labour and birth, feeding and caring and bathing your newborn child, and the life you can expect to have with your baby.

Aside from being the ideal future school of your child, a Montessori can become your own classroom for learning about parenthood through antenatal classes. Indeed, unlike your parents and their parents and all the other parents that came before them, you've got valuable resources within your reach to fully prepare for your new life as a parent. A health service recommends new mums to check in at antenatal classes 30 to 32 weeks into their pregnancy, and even as early as 24 weeks for mums expecting twins or triplets. There are classes held by midwives at local hospitals and other classes are conducted at family centres.

The antenatal classes are more about preparing new mums and dads for the joys of parenthood, and not just about labour and birth. By going to antenatal classes, you'll have a more relaxed pregnancy, in spite of the defiant hormones. There are normally eight sessions, which will include relaxation and meditation techniques, an introduction to your child's psychological development, and toy making classes that teach you to craft stimulating and visual mobiles to promote your baby's cognitive development. You'll also learn and understand your child's development in the first five months of his or her life. Each session will enable you to emotionally prepare to better provide a more specific type of parenting to your child.

Antenatal classes are not only advisable for new mums but also for parents who may want a "refresher" course on parenthood. As one of the world's toughest jobs and one of the most honourable responsibilities you'll ever have, it only makes sense to learn and prepare for the imminent experience. So enquire about antenatal classes and pretty soon, you'll find all those mixed emotions about parenthood transform into self-confidence and pure joy.

From pregnancy, you can actually take care of your baby by going to Antenatal classes Brighton Montessori School. What is an antenatal class? It is training where you will be taught to prepare for an ideal parenthood.

Baby Sleep Facts New Parents Should Know

Baby Sleep Facts New Parents Should Know
One of the most challenging aspects of being a new mom or dad is how to put baby to sleep with little effort. Now, newborn babies don't sleep through the night until they're four months old, so expect your little one to wake up at least every 2 to 3 hours to feed. Aside from the fact that they have to wake up in order to feed, infants do have different sleep patterns than adults and sleep very lightly because night waking is part of their survival mechanism. Babies need to wake up at the slightest discomfort such as having their airways blocked or being too cold or too warm, because unlike adults, their communication is limited, and waking up and crying is their way of telling you that their survival is at risk. In order for you and your baby to enjoy going to sleep, here are baby sleep tips you need to keep in mind.

Babies Have Unique Temperaments

If there is one thing you need to realize as a parent, it's the fact that not all babies are the same. Some babies learn to sleep through the night at an early age, and some struggle with it even at the latter half of their first year. Be patient with your little one and don't blame your parenting style if your baby still wakes up in the middle of the night. Aside from the fact that your baby is unique, there are other external factors that may be preventing him from being able to sleep through the night such as teething pain. Learn to address these issues instead of putting the blame on your parenting style.

Don't Rush Your Baby to Sleep

Unlike adults, babies enter sleep through a short period of light sleep. This means rushing to put your baby to sleep while he's still in the state of light sleep will only result to him waking up and to you putting him back to sleep again. The key here is to wait for your baby to go to deep sleep before putting him down or leaving him alone on his bed.

Avoid Encouraging Your Baby to Sleep Deeply Too Soon

Again, night waking offers a lot of benefits to your baby. Aside from the fact that it helps in their survival, it also helps in their development. According to studies, it is during the light sleep state that babies' brains develop the fastest. Encouraging him to sleep deeply as soon as you put him down may prevent him from getting such benefits.

Babies Need to Be Helped Back to Sleep

While many babies can get back to sleep on their own after waking up in the middle of the night, some babies need help from their parents. As a parent, you should be familiar of your child's personality. If your little one finds it hard to get back to sleep after waking up from a deep sleep, you may need to pacify him or rock him back to sleep.

Keeping these things in mind will not only give you and your baby restful sleeps at night, but will also give you the assurance that you're doing a good job as a parent!

One of the subjects that new moms and dads want to learn more about is infant sleep. If you are among those new parents who want to learn more about infant sleep facts, there are a good number of online resources to help you. For more baby sleep tips, check out thegiftofsleep.com.au.
